ADULTS IN CHARGE of teams directly affect the behaviour of players under their supervision. They should pay due care to their conduct and be aware that everyday decisions and actions have ethical implications. It is natural that winning constitutes a basic concern for coaches. However, coaches should disassociate themselves from a “win-at-all-costs” attitude;
- Put the well-being and safety of players above all other considerations.
- Display good sportsmanship in all situations.
- Display high standards of behaviour and appearance.
- Be a good role model for all those in your care.
- Enjoy yourself and promote enjoyment for others.
- Be responsible for your actions.
- Encourage players and spectators to display a sportsmanlike attitude.
- Guide and encourage players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
- Respect and uphold the Laws of the Game and discourage actions and behaviour contrary to the spirit of the Laws of the Game.
- Observe all BDSFA and ESFA guidelines/policies relating to the pupils in your care.
- Use appropriate and acceptable language at all times and in all situations.
