25/5/18 – Barking & Dagenham Trophy Final

William Ford 4-2 Roding Hewett

William Ford were crowned the Barking & Dagenham Post Trophy champions after cruising to a 4-2 victory against Roding Hewitt. Goals from Reece McGovern, Heyden M’Bayo, DJ McGarry and Elsjon Meha were enough to seal the win for John Harrington’s side in the final at Robert Clack School.

Coach Harrington was delighted with his side’s strong performance to bring home the silverware.

“It was excellent, they played really well, they’ve tried so hard and done so well through all of the competition,” he said.

“We’ve got a lot of good players, we had five substitutes who didn’t even get to play, and we have a few more in the squad who didn’t make it for the game.

“But the team that played on the day were excellent and scored some fantastic goals so I was really pleased for them.”

Dominant

Harrington also praised his side’s goals and dominant performance throughout the match.

“There was a lovely one by DJ McGarry that went right in the corner and a similar one where Elsjon ran through as well almost from the halfway line and just tucked it past the keeper.

“We were 2-0 up quite quickly and we felt quite comfortable, but then they scored a cracker themselves and it looked like they were coming back into the game, but we got another one and then another.

“Then they got a second and we had to keep things tight for the end.”

Deserved

Roding Hewett coach Mr Withers praised his side’s efforts for reaching the final of the competition but believed William Ford deserved their victory.

“It was a good achievement, we did well and one of the rounds we won 11-0 which is a great result,” he said.

“We worked hard but the better team won.”

Withers also praised his side’s goals, but felt they left it too late to starting pressing on in the dying stages of the match.

“We had a couple of chances, scored a couple of good goals, conceded a couple of not so good goals and gave ourselves a bit of a mountain to climb,” he added.

“Christian Mulanda was our man of the match, he worked hard and scored a nice penalty.”
