25/5/18 – Barking & Dagenham Post Cup Final

Northbury 0-2 George Carey

GEORGE CAREY COACH Wesley Charles was extremely happy to see his team lift the Barking and Dagenham Post Primary Schools’ Cup. Charles saw his players pull off an impressive 2-0 win against Northbury in the final at Robert Clack School thanks to a brace from striker Tolu Fabanifobee.

“I’m very happy, It was probably our toughest game of the season. We did play in the Essex Cup final and that was difficult, but because this is a derby as it were,” Charles said.

“A lot of the boys know each other, one of the boys plays regularly with a lot of my team, so it was a really tough game against a good side.”

0-0

Northbury dominated the early stages of the match and it was 0-0 going into the break, but Charles was pleased with his side’s fitness levels as Fabanifobee netted twice in the second half.

He added: “In the early stages for about the first 15 minutes they were camped in our half, but we defended really well, and a couple of good saves from the keeper.

“Their main guy in central midfield Jeffro, I think he’s a fantastic player, we had to put someone on him and mark him.

“I had to rotate three or four people to mark him at the same time.

“I think the fitness of our boys came through in the end and I’m just pleased they have done such a good job.

“It’s been a long hard season and this is the end.”

Star Players

Charles also heaped praise on his star players, goalkeeper Kevin Luza and goalscorer Fabanifobee.

“The goalkeeper kept us in it first half, then made a couple of fantastic saves in the second half as well,” he said.

“Tolu has been our guy all season, he couldn’t get in the game in the first half, and then in the second half he had three chances and got two goals.”

George Carey will now turn to defending their title in next year’s nine-a-side tournament, which included 33 schools this time around.

Northbury teacher Patrick Coman was delighted with his side’s efforts despite crashing to defeat against George Carey.

“I’m very pleased, it’s the first time Northbury have ever got this far, so getting this far and the character they’ve shown to get here has been brilliant,” he said.

“They kept fighting until the very end and they were attacking right the way through and I felt we dominated a lot of the game but George Carey obviously have the experience and stuck at it.

“All I can say is well done to them as well.”
