Monteagle Shield Final 2017

2017 Winners – Henry Green

HENRY GREEN PRIMARY SCHOOL secured their first ever Monteagle Shield with a 2-0 victory over Hunters Hall.  An early strike from captain Justina Mutuale and an own goal saw the Green Lane based school inflict a second successive final defeat upon their opponents.

‘Green started the better and Mutuale’s low drive gave them an early lead.
Amanai Andrew, who caused the Hall defence problems throughout, then forced a Hall defender to divert the ball into her own net as her side took an early stranglehold on the game.
Hall slowly edged their way back but were unable to find a goal and they went in at the break trailing.
Hunters Hall, who lost the 2016 final in extra-time to Valence, came out on the front foot in the second period and went close to reducing the deficit with Ella Eskelson’s  low drive.
Henry Green, who were roared on by a healthy support, always looked dangerous when they went forward and Andrew and Mutuale saw chances to settle the tie well-saved.
Hall battled on to the final whistle but were unable to find a way past a well-drilled Henry Green defence and the final whistle brought scenes of joy for one side and tears from the other. However, both side had contributed to a final that was a great advert for the quality of Girls’ football in the Borough.
