THE APPLEYARD SHIELD is the borough’s 5-a-side girls’ knockout competition. Prior to the 2020/21 season, it was known as the Monteagle Shield. Only girls in Y5 and Y6 may take part.

Rules
- Size 3 football
- No headers
- Matches will be 5-a-side; Y5/6 GIRLS ONLY.
- All other match conditions to be agreed between competing schools before kick-off.
- Teachers to referee. Alternatively, a qualified referee may take charge but they must have been CRB checked. Parents without appropriate qualifications are not permitted to referee according to ESFA rules. A common sense, friendly approach is encouraged – many of the girls will have never played before!
- It is the responsibility of BOTH schools to arrange games. Please try and do this by email so that if a school is being difficult, there is a written record which can be used to adjudicate matches that aren’t played.
