BDSFA Competitions Update: CORONAVIRUS

FOLLOWING THE DECISION TO postpone all Premier League, EFL and WSL games due to the Covid 19 virus, BDSFA has received enquiries regarding the position of borough schools’ football competitions.

We are experiencing an unprecedented situation with a range of views about what should happen. A calm and measured response is required which prioritises the health of our pupils. As such, any guidance from BDSFA must reflect the recommendations of the relevant authorities.

At the moment, The FA and English Schools FA have placed no restrictions on grassroots football and the instructions of the government are for schools to remain open. Therefore, it is the view of BDSFA that schools can continue to fulfil fixtures, with an increased emphasis on good hygiene (washing hands, no handshakes, use of hand sanitisers etc).

BDSFA will fully understand and support any headteacher who wishes to postpone playing until a time when they feel more comfortable to do so. If this means that competitions reach a later or alternative conclusion, then that must be respected.

Thank you for your understanding. The situation is currently very fluid and may well change in the future. We will keep you updated as and when it is appropriate to do so.
